The Saltmen return to action at Kingys on Saturday afternoon, four days after the unfortunately abandoned game against Cribbs. From what we hear, Cribbs’ Oli Hanham was initially treated at the Worcester Royal before being transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he underwent surgery to help repair a broken fibula. We wish Oli a full and speedy recovery and look forward to his return to playing.
This time out we welcome Mangotsfield United to Kingys in the Hellenic League Premier Division. The first 20 or so minutes on Tuesday saw a positive looking Spa side create a host of opportunities. A lot of the attacking threat came via the wide right channel where Curtis Smith and Archie Thurston were able to link up to great effect, benefitting from a dominant midfield. It looked odds on that Spa would take the lead before the awful injury to Oli Hanham put a halt on proceedings.
Spa did the double over Mangotsfield last season with a comfortable home win and a rather fortunate win at the impressive Cossham Street stadium. The Mangoes will certainly provide tough opposition again on Saturday. They currently sit exactly midway up the table having won 3, drawn 2 but most tellingly are unbeaten since losing 1-0 at Fairford on the first day of the season.
Arguably, their best result in the league so far was the 4-1 whipping of Droitwich Reserves (AKA Westfields) before it became trendy! United have progressed to the first round of the FA Vase and creditably took Gloucester City to a replay in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.
