Hellenic League Premier Division
3pm, Saturday 5th September, 2026
Venue: The Secure Stadium, Lacock Road, Corsham, SN13 9HS

The Saltmen continue their Hellenic League campaign on Saturday as they travel to Wiltshire to play Corsham Town. Inspired by Ian McMillan (Poet in Residence at Barnsley FC) I’ve written a short poem to mark the occasion:
Please show decorum,
Spa are playing at Corsham,
Hope that we score some.
Anyway, while I wait for the awards to roll in, there’s the matter of an important football match to take care of.
Corsham is an historic market town in west Wiltshire, England. It is at the south western edge of the Cotswolds, 28 miles south west of Swindon and 20 miles east of Bristol. According to the Visit Corsham website, in Corsham you’ll find independent shops and restaurants. Apparently, peacocks roam freely from their home at Corsham Court. The roaming peacock thing may cause problems for travelling ‘Monners’ as our Peacocks is firmly rooted in the precinct, next to The Word, opposite Boots.

Alongside the peripatetic peacocks I expect the high street will boast an array of artisan clothing and coffee vendors. Like you get at Gloucester Services. You know….50% more expensive and taste like mud.

Pie Facts
Shakespeare killed off two of his characters with pie.
A recent study compiled all of Shakespeare’s 74 scripted deaths throughout his 38 plays. Among them are stabbings (30), poisonings (four), be-headings (three), and two poor souls had the most creative death of all: they were baked into a pie.
In Titus Andronicus (Shakespeare’s first tragedy), Titus Andronicus wreaks revenge on Queen Tamora and her family for their evil deeds by baking her sons into a pie and serving it to her.

…………….
After narrowly missing out on the playoffs last season The Quarrymen have made another positive start to the current campaign. At the time of writing they sit in fourth place in the table, having taken 13 points from their opening 7 games. Spa are on a two game unbeaten run having netted seven against Stourport Swifts on Monday. Should be a good contest.
See you there.
Cheers
