Hellenic League Premier Division

That’s right. The away trip we’ve looked forward to all season has finally arrived as we travel three miles down the Worcester Road to take on our nearest rivals, the Worcester Raiders at the Claines Lane ground.
The more senior members of Salt Nation will probably remember when the Raiders were called the Worcester Twixes, before the rebrand. I struggle with all these rebrands. I still call Cif bathroom cleaner Jif. Opal Fruits will never be Starburst and I will look back fondly to the days before that 26 mile run in our capital city became the London Snickers.
I understand why car makers are forced to change model names. Vauxhall changed the name of the Nova to Corsa, allegedly because “No Va” in certain Latin derived languages translates to “ Doesn’t Go,” which may have been accurate but not the best selling point for a small family hatchback. Likewise, Toyota ran into problems marketing their MR2 sportster to the cheese eating surrender monkeys across the channel. FTS understands that when pronounced individually “Emm” “Air” “Deux” sounds like the French word Merde which, as all school kids know, translates perfectly to “Hellenic League Cup Finals at Non-Neutral Venues.” [Let it go – Ed]

Anyhoo, there’s a football match to consider. And it’s quite an important one in the race for the playoffs. A real six-pointer. Andy Crowther’s men will be keen to bounce back from Monday’s home reverse against the Hereford Peggers.
Claines Lane is just about within walking distance and the 144 bus goes right past the ground. It probably doesn’t stop there very often on Saturdays, but I bet it will today!
See you there!
Cheers
FTS
